Proud Moment in Patt History

Just two short days ago, our Shayna brought home a note from school that made us practically burst with pride. Shayna, just 11 and a half years old, was issued her own - get ready for it -
PEN LICENSE!!!!!!!!
Here is an excerpt from the official notice:

"Your child has been issued with a pen license. This means that you will need to
purchase a pen for your child's written work in school....
the pen will be the responsibility of your child and will therefore need to be marked in
some way in order to identify it as their own. It is also their responsibility to have the pen for all lessons. Thank you for your support in this matter..."

Well, we were ecstatic, to say the least.
At the same time, we were mortified. Because, truth be told, for months now, even years,
we've been allowing Shayna to use a pen without being properly licensed! Think of tragedies we were lucky enough to escape! I mean, there's...well, unsightly ink splotches...ummmm, ink poisoning? And she could've easily put out someone's eye.
So parents, if you're reading this and you have a child that is using a pen without a license, STOP THEM IMMEDIATELY!

If we can save just one child from this dastardly end, then this post will not have been in vain.

Well, now you're just being a smarty-pants...keep it up. It's terribly entertaining.

Norah got her pen license by her first birthday. Not to brag, of course.

Jer:

Does that mean she will have to have a "pen" name. I know such a profound conundrum places an extreme amount of pen't up anxiety upon you guys...but too bad. Just suck it up and show those Brits what we are made of...or not.

Alright,...since Shayna's got a pen licence... I would like a Bee licence please, for my pet bee name Eric, Eric the half of bee!..................

If you can't give me that,... I would like a cat licence!

Boy oh Boy, what fun in the UK!

Congrats Shayna!

Well, not to throw a wet blanket over all this ribbing but what the "pen license" actually means - in case it wasn't explained in the note from school - is that Shayna's penmanship has been judged of sufficiently high quality to allow her to complete written schoolwork with a pen rather than a pencil. So it's somewhat more than a strange British tradition. (God knows there's enough of that there already.) It actually is something of an honor for her, and a well-deserved one to be sure.

Hugs & Kisses to you all!

Oh my! A pen license! What a true honor!

Now THAT is cool.

Did she have to stand in front of a blue background and get her photo snapped?

Congrats to Shayna on her pen license! I wasn't allowed to use a pen for school work until at least 7th grade and then only on final reports - with no smudges or errors. Needless to say, I filled up the trash basket pretty fast. How is school going for the rest of the kids? For Jer?

Keep up the messages. We look forward to each and every one of them.

Hugs and Kisses,
Auntie H
